Ton Villas
Project Description
Spread across a 3,500 sqm site, Ton Villas was envisioned as a vibrant retreat designed for a client passionate about hosting large gatherings. The property features four guest houses, two expansive meeting halls, a grand dining area, and a lively lounge, all overlooking a giant fishpond. A network of shaded corridors and footpaths connects the various spaces, promoting natural cooling and minimizing reliance on air conditioning during sunny days. Strategic placement of wooden vertical slats and perforated concrete blocks enhances ventilation while casting dynamic patterns of light and shadow across the interiors. Wood, the client’s favored material, plays a central role in shaping the project’s warm, inviting atmosphere, complemented by stone walls, concrete blocks, metal railings, and steel structures. To realize this vision, large timbers and live trees were transported from hundreds of kilometers away to enrich the site’s natural charm.
The architecture of Ton Villas offers a rich variety of spatial experiences, achieved through the playful massing of its structures. Attention to detail is a defining aspect of the project: the main building’s ceiling is adorned with panels crafted from hundreds of discarded metal buttons, while the custom silk-screen printed tiles on the floor reflect personal touches close to the client’s heart—an homage to his legacy as the owner of one of Indonesia’s leading denim brands. These thoughtful elements, interwoven with the robust material palette and mindful spatial planning, create a memorable destination that resonates with creativity, craftsmanship, and a deep connection to nature.
