Quarry House
Project Description
Set against the backdrop of rolling farmlands outside Bangalore’s urban sprawl, Quarry House is an exploration of architectural innovation rooted in nature. Designed for a family of five, the residence is Vaastu-compliant and grounded in the traditional principles of ‘Aaya’, restricting the ground floor to just 2,500 sqft on a 6,650 sqft plot. This limitation led to the creation of an open-plan layout punctuated by striking overhangs and a dramatic 18-foot cantilever, blending structural daring with spatial fluidity. The home’s raw material palette—exposed concrete, various indigenous stones, and textured finishes—anchors it to the land, while expansive skylights, stone pathways, and a northeastern waterbody weave the indoors and outdoors into a seamless living experience. Carefully positioned to frame picturesque vistas, Quarry House cultivates a tranquil dialogue with its landscape through light, materiality, and minimalist form.
At its heart, a sculptural metal staircase cantilevered off a suspended concrete wall serves as a bold connector across levels, maximizing openness while defining living, dining, and recreational zones. Formal and semi-formal lounges open into gardens, while the puja room, delicately floating above a waterbody and lit from above, offers a serene moment of spiritual refuge. Each bedroom engages with the outdoors differently—the master suite emphasizes simplicity and functionality with a glazed partition for light and connectivity, the guest room showcases rugged aesthetics under the cantilever serving as a canopy for car parking, and the son’s bedroom hovers above the TV lounge, framing views of the lily pond and the landscape beyond. Every space in Quarry House is an intentional convergence of structure, environment, and emotion—offering its inhabitants a life deeply in sync with the rhythms of nature.
