Porous Abode
Project Description
Situated on a narrow 6M x 15M south-facing plot in the expanding outskirts of Belgaum, this residence redefines compact urban living through thoughtful design interventions. With limited light sources from the two narrow sides, the design prioritizes internal courtyards, seamlessly integrating greenery as both light wells and interactive spaces. These courtyards enhance natural ventilation, ensuring a refreshing indoor environment while fostering a strong connection with nature.
A striking double-height entrance court welcomes visitors with cascading natural light, complemented by a suspended metal grill adorned with lush creepers. At the heart of the home, a sleek metal staircase serves as both a functional and sculptural element, delineating the double-height dining court while enhancing spatial fluidity. The terracotta perforated façade plays a dual role—mitigating heat from the southern exposure while adding an expressive architectural identity. Accents of magenta interwoven with grey tones unify the interiors, lending depth and visual intrigue. Despite spatial constraints, the residence maximizes efficiency without compromising aesthetics, offering a harmonious blend of sustainability, comfort, and contemporary living.
