Nature's Abode
Project Description
Designed for the Garg family in Shahabad, Haryana, Nature’s Abode responds to the region’s extreme climate with a fusion of eco-brutalism, biophilic elements, and modern sensibilities. The residence integrates a live green wall system with built-in concrete planters as its front façade, allowing nature to evolve alongside the structure. Open planning maximizes cross-ventilation, with a double-height living space flowing into a lush backyard, and a centrally placed Puja Ghar reimagining the traditional Aangan. The first floor continues this openness with a seating area by the light well, bedrooms, and terraces adorned with RCC planters and in-cast seating.
The façade serves as a natural brise soleil, mitigating heat gain through verdant openings. Thoughtfully curated greenery, including a Rudraksha tree in the courtyard and Money Plant climbers, reinforces the home’s synergy with nature. Material honesty is central to the design, with raw concrete, steel, clay, and wood complemented by blue, grey, and white accents. Expansive glass fenestrations invite natural light, reducing energy consumption while enhancing spatial interaction. As the façade matures over time, Nature’s Abode stands as a dynamic blend of aesthetics and function, embracing the evolving relationship between built space and its natural surroundings.
