Corner House
Project Description
Situated on a prominent corner lot in a prime suburban neighborhood, this contemporary residence is designed to harmonize with its multiple frontages while maintaining a strong connection to nature. The architecture seamlessly integrates sustainability and aesthetics, creating a dynamic engagement with the streetscape on three sides. A striking cantilevered timber-clad wall, extending over a reflective pool, forms a dramatic entrance, evolving into an inverted L-shape canopy that filters morning sunlight into the formal foyer.
At the core of the design is a landscaped courtyard that visually expands the space, dividing the home into formal and informal zones. The front formal area features a covered verandah that links the interior with the lawn, enhanced by a fireplace for open-air gatherings. The informal rear section houses an open-plan kitchen, dining, and lounge area, opening onto private south-facing greens that welcome winter sunlight. The ground floor master suite enjoys dual views—one toward the internal courtyard and the other toward the rear garden. The first floor accommodates four bedrooms, including a second master suite with a private balcony overlooking the courtyard. A fully glazed pavilion crowns the formal space, serving as a versatile retreat. Designed with passive principles, the house optimizes solar orientation, cross-ventilation, and privacy through a timber louvered facade, ensuring energy efficiency while maintaining a sophisticated, self-shading exterior.
