Great Design Begins With a Simple Conversation - Let’s Talk!

Project Description

Belaku stands out for its well-defined geometric forms and seamless spatial connectivity, both within the home and with its natural surroundings. Set in Bangalore, the residence consists of two distinct yet interconnected homes—one for an elderly couple and another for their son, who frequently travels between New York and Bangalore. The design balances practicality and minimalism, creating a cohesive composition that embraces openness, light, and tranquility. A central water body, positioned between the two blocks, serves as both a visual and functional link, reminiscent of traditional South Indian courtyard homes. This feature, along with double-height spaces and skylights, allows ample daylight to filter through, enhancing the home’s airy and serene ambiance.

Materiality plays a crucial role in defining the home’s character. A combination of corten steel, solid IPE wood screens, and cement-finished tiles creates an earthy yet refined aesthetic, blending modernity with natural textures. The neutral color palette, inspired by the Japanese concept of Wabi Sabi, celebrates simplicity and the beauty of imperfection, with pigmented cement plaster seamlessly integrating the structure into its landscape. The design’s understated quirkiness is subtly expressed through curated artwork and material contrasts, offering a timeless, nature-infused living experience that harmonizes warmth, function, and architectural elegance.
