Project Description

Screen House is a thoughtfully designed residential development that unites a large, multigenerational family while offering distinct spaces for different age groups. Arranged in a C-shaped configuration around a central green courtyard, the three interconnected homes—facing west, north, and east—create a shared, open-air living room where the family gathers for relaxation and bonding. The seamless relationship between architecture, water, plant life, and built form fosters a deep connection to nature, maintaining visual openness with carefully curated, low-height landscaping.

The architecture is characterized by the extensive use of brise soleil screens, crafted in timber to shield the interiors from Ahmedabad’s harsh sun while allowing natural ventilation and diffused light. Exposed concrete, natural stone, and wood create a warm, earthy palette, enhancing thermal comfort. Water features punctuate the homes, enriching the sensory experience and symbolizing serenity and life. During the day, the homes appear private and introspective; at night, they glow like lanterns through the delicate screens. Internally, spaces are arranged to separate public, semi-private, and private functions, with flowing transitions through verandas, balconies, and shaded eaves that celebrate openness and natural breeze. Screen House is a poetic integration of architecture, landscape, and interiors—crafted to nurture family ties while remaining rooted in climate responsiveness and timeless design.
