Project Description

Tibin and Raisa envisioned a private villa that balances comfort with the ability to host family and friends. They desired a shared kitchen, open dining room, expandable living space, outdoor terrace, and swimming pool with decking, all within a wooden design that blends Indonesian tradition with minimalist aesthetics.

The site, surrounded by mature trees, a rice paddy field, and coconut trees, exuded a serene and sheltered energy, reminiscent of Bali. Our design philosophy focused on preserving the natural environment, incorporating mature trees and adding tropical plants to enhance biodiversity.

Inspired by the traditional Borneo long-house ("Rumah Panjang"), the villa features locally sourced materials, including Bangkirai wood and "sirap ulin" wooden shingles. A Balinese-inspired hipped roof and custom terrazzo and cement tile floors reflect the region's rich architectural heritage. The house’s expandable living space, designed with openable corridors and seating that doubles as a gathering space, fosters a seamless connection to the surrounding tropical landscape. The use of "karpet lontar," a traditional Balinese material, adorns the ceiling, creating a unique contrast of texture and color throughout the villa.
