Great Design Begins With a Simple Conversation - Let’s Talk!

Project Description

JA House embodies transparency and contemplativeness, integrating passive design technology to address environmental challenges. The layout emphasizes cross ventilation, with strategically placed openings that channel warm air upwards and reduce reliance on artificial lighting, cutting down on energy consumption.

Designed as the first "home" for a young family, it marks a pivotal step in their journey. Previously living in a large-span warehouse, they sought a space where life flows seamlessly within thoughtfully planned spaces. The quality of living, or "occupying," is vital to the design, fostering a sense of home.

The design begins with the site's orientation, responding to sunlight, heat, and monsoon winds. To block harsh western sun, a steep roof slope with a wide overhang was incorporated, alongside a large existing tree that provides shade. The tropical modern approach balances vernacular architecture with flexible open-close panel dividers, connecting the interior to the exterior.

The home is divided into four functional zones, with a central void allowing natural light to flow into each space. The design features cross-circulation, with the main stairs connecting the living room, office, and service area, all with separate access points. A split-level arrangement provides visual interest and varied ceiling heights. A wooden terrace separates the rooms, offering direct access to the swimming pool, while the central dining and kitchen areas are illuminated by the light void.
