Court House
Project Description
Centered around an introspective courtyard, this home transforms a simple design into a vibrant, multi-level living experience. Situated on a 2900 sq. ft. plot within a gated community in Vadodara, the site initially lacked an engaging context. Instead of seeking inspiration externally, the design cultivates a dynamic internal landscape, carving out a central courtyard around which the home unfolds. The staircase encircling this core enhances connectivity, while natural light filtering through the skylight, combined with lush greenery, breathes life into the spaces.
The ground floor hosts the living, dining, kitchen, and a bedroom, all arranged around the courtyard. The first floor features three bedrooms connected by a passage overlooking the central void, while the second floor accommodates a home theatre, art studio, and terrace with a similar spatial relationship. The façade presents a striking floating brick box, accentuated by a horizontal stack bond for visual uniformity. Planters and balconies along the south and west serve as buffers, softening the structure’s solidity with verdant elements. Inside, the restrained material palette of grey flooring, white walls, and wooden furniture maintains a seamless aesthetic. The sculptural staircase, set against a single exposed brick wall, plays with light and shadow, adding a dynamic character that evolves throughout the day. Though unassuming at first glance, the home’s essence unfolds through experience, offering an extraordinary depth that resonates with its residents over time.
